The Biggest Weekend Market – Chatuchak Market

Chatuchak Market, you can find almost anything.

If you ever been to Thailand make sure you never miss to visit the largest weekend market in Thailand for sure (if it is not the largest in the world). Here you can find vast amount of things that you’re looking probably plants, antiques, consumer electronics, cosmetics, pets, food and drinks, fresh and dry food, ceramics, furniture and home accessories, clothing, and books. You’ll never know I might missed something.

Chatuchak Market also known as JJ Market consist of more than 15,000 stalls, divided into 27 sections. Here somewhere around 200,000 to 300,000 visitors come on a daily basis. You can be here to see how wonderful this place is, finding things that you need, learn more about the cultures, taste  local foods, get some souvenirs for family and friends back at home.

It has been open as early as 1942. By 1948 Prime Minister Jompol Por Pibulsongkraam requested that every province required to have their own market. The market was originally located at Sanam Luang and keep on changing for several times until State Railway of Thailand donated the land on the south side of Chatuchak Park to establish as a market. Merchants start to move to this new location by 1983 and at that time it still known as Phahonyothin Market. Only by 1987 the market was changed to Chatuchak Market until today.

You never know exactly what you’re looking here until you are here. As this place is too big, you might find it’s very hard to find something without proper guides (from locals or someone who can show you how to read the maps). Sure, I got lost here with my friend (who already been here before).
Well, the trick is, always check on the map and the unit number of shop where you are at. Refer to the map to get an ideas of where you are, and where you want to go. Get local guides if necessary or ask someone else – when necessary.

There are two train stations that can bring you here from the heart of Bangkok. The Mo Chit BTS train station or Chatuchak Park for MRT station that located nearby. There are also many busses, taxis and Grab cars available.

Another thing to do when visiting the Chatuchak Market is to stop by the Chatuchak Park. They are many people lay by, relaxing on the grass, taking a picture, feeding the pigeons and so on after the tiring walking through the vast areas of Chatuchak Market.

Visiting to Kuala Lumpur Bird Park

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is very interesting, because not only is the Kuala Lumpur city center filled with buildings and shopping centers, but it also provides many interesting tourist destination. During the school holidays, many may want to bring their family visits to places of interest around the city of Kuala Lumpur.

For those who live near or travel to Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is one of the must-visit destinations. Located in Taman Tasik Perdana, it is also close to many other parks like Taman Orkid, Taman Bunga Raya, Butterfly Park, National Planetarium, the Islamic Arts Museum, Deer Park and Memorial Tun Razak. So if you want to visit this place you may visit more than one park at the same time - it saves time and travel costs.

The best thing about this bird park is that it is said to be among the largest in the world. Divided into different zones, Zone 1 and Zone 2 (Zone 3 is the hornbill cages and Zone 4 for few other small cages) you will see varieties of birds fly freely around the park designed to resemble their natural habitats.

There are also small cages which housed birds such as parrots, eagles, hornbills and others to enable you to see it up close. This is because it is difficult for you to see these birds if they are allowed to fly free in the main cage that is too large.

Through visiting this place you can see rare birds that you discover as you also learn more about their habitat and how they live. The surrounding that resembles their real habitat can be another important thing to take note on how these birds survive in the wild.

If you are lucky you might catch a peacock showcasing its beautiful tail’s feathers. Peacocks are moving freely in the garden and their feathers also look healthy (not damaged by captivity). Similarly for other birds such as flamingos that manly spends their time in the artificial pond. Crown pigeons are among many other birds that roaming the park.

Kuala Lumpur Tower

KL Tower as a landmark of Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur Tower (Menara KL) is one of the most important attractions in Kuala Lumpur which was opened to the public since July 23, 1996. It was opened by 4th, Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on 1 October 1996. Since then, Kuala Lumpur Tower continues to be visited by many people, in addition to carrying out its original function as a telecommunications tower.

Kuala Lumpur Tower is the 4th highest telecommunications tower in the world with a height of 421 meters. Its construction began on 6 July 1992 and was completed in 1996. The construction phases are important because it does not use pilling system instead of 50,000 cubic meters of concrete was used as its foundation.

Aside from being a telecommunications tower, the tower also include observation deck that allows visitors to see the sights of Kuala Lumpur City from above. National Science Centre Kuala Lumpur

National Science Center is another important location for sightseeing in Kuala Lumpur for educational tour. It is built on hilly terrain with a land area about 8 hectares located in Bukit Kiara. National Science Centre was officially opened by former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad on 29 November, 1996.

National Science Center (NSC) has more futuristic architecture than any museums or other exhibition centers in Kuala Lumpur. In addition it has nine galleries featuring various themes related sciences in order to help crating public interest to science.

It is an important venue for students because it is equipped not only with its unique exhibits, but also Taman Pendidikan Sains (Science Educational Park) which houses numbers of animals such as deer, rabbits, chickens, ostriches and others. There is also an aquarium to expose visitors to aquatic life.

3 Important Religious Attractions in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia is inhabited by three main ethnic and many other races that also characterized the excitement of this country.  Even so not many of us who spend the time to learn more about the synagogues of other races respectively, but it was a good effort to foster more understanding between people and bridge the closeness of friendship that already exist.

Kuala Lumpur National Mosque is the main mosque for the Muslim population in Kuala Lumpur was built with the architecture symbolizes Islam with many unique features of its own. This mosque is able to accommodate up to 15,000 worshipers at any one time. It has unique dome that has 18 facets representing the 13 states in Malaysia, while the 5 pillars also symbolize the 5 pillars of Islam. There is a minaret that houses the speakers as high as 74m, which allows the call of prayer to be heard from a wider area.

Thean Hou Temple

Batu Caves is a house of worship for Indians and also the largest in Malaysia. In fact Batu Caves has been used since 120 years ago. The most festive time to visit is during the celebration of Thaipusam every year, usually held in late January or early February for 3 days.

One of the most interesting things about Batu Caves Temple is, it is located about 272 steps up to the top of the temple. There is also a giant-sized statue known as Murugan statue sized 42.5m with a golden color that is placed in front of the main road up to the stone cave.

In addition to the main cave there are also other caves are open for tours (Dark Cave: www.darkcavemalaysia.com) with adult admission fee of RM35 / RM25 children: 10am - 5pm, Tuesday - Friday; 10:30 am - 5:30 pm Saturday & Sunday with a guide for every 20 minutes. This tour will take you to explore the cave and see the unique cave construction and together with their floras and faunas.

The best time to the Batu Caves is between 7am - 9pm through a variety of transport options. Entrance fee to the Cave Temple is free but to other locations may be charged.

There are many more important synagogues around the city of Kuala Lumpur and you can visit it with permission from the administration/management. As explained at the beginning of this article, the purpose of the visit is to learn more about other cultures of other races, and you should respect these important areas during the visit.
